Green Lantern Hour

Between the Alpha’s and the resurrection of Black Hand, the Green Lantern world has been dealing with some fun storylines. So much so I couldn’t decide what to talk about, so we will go with Green Lantern Corps because Guy is Irish and so am I.

Green Lantern Corps #11

The Alphas have a huge problem. How do you deal with a population of people who have super power weapons and don’t agree with you? Their idea was to lock them up, with their power rings still. And my god the Alpha are just stupid. They are supposed to be the moral authority but they really drop the ball when they can’t tell the difference between the real deal and freaking constructs. I mean, really? They were completely fucking green, how do you confuse that for the real things?

You couldn’t tell?

A Construct in the Green Lantern world has always been Green, and always easy to tell, for the reader at least, so when you have characters fall for it, you need to make it clear why. And I think it is really clear why the Alphas fell for it. Because they are stupid.

As a reader, I never thought the Alphas were a threat in the tale at all. They were like small children that were trying to ware daddy’s shoes and being the man of the house. I don’t understand why they were decide to have so much power from the Guardians, who also treat them like they are stupid.

So why are the stupid people running the asylum? And so poorly?

Dear God what is that thing?

I think it was a just a reason to bring back the man hunters. There, I said it.

Green Lantern #11

So Hal is the one back in control. This is going to be fun. And I’m still sure that Carol is going to come back in the story at some point. Last time we saw her she was grabbing her ring. I would love to see her save the day by kicking some ass. Because Carol is the shit. And you can quote me on that.

The question is are they setting up for another blackest night end game with the return of the Black Hand? I hope not. Because that would be very lazy story telling Geoff Johns, and you are better than that. I know. Earth One was awesome. Don’t start cheaping off on the months to do good trades. That shit ain’t cool.

It is always nice when the family gets together.

I did like the Black Hand sitting with his newly risen family. There was something about that’s funny, with just the conversation he is having so one sided, and the fact they are just staring at him while he eats.

That and Sinestro doesn’t like it when you talk about his ex-girlfriends in anyway.

So…you don’t like her much any more.

Funny Panel Friday

Don’t try to wake John before his alarm goes off.

You are not funny. Heremes and Diana do not approve.

It’s super effective!

Oh Hal, I think you are about to do some Hijinxs, are you?

I picked up my first Marvel

Oh Yea. [Captain Marvel #1:2012]

So it is a brand new day here at Stuperheroes. I picked up my first Marvel comic, Captain Marvel. I didn’t know what to expect and I have been meaning to give Marvel a fair shake for a while now, since I have really talked about DC a lot.

Mostly I have been having a huge problem on what I would like with Marvel, and I would have preferred to start with a number one of something, not try and pick up a series halfway through I also don’t want to have to back trade through years and years of issues to know what the hell is going on, that just didn’t appeal to me.

So Captain Marvel, seemed like a good choice to me. It had a Woman as the lead, Carol Danvers, it’s a number one, and was fun to read. That is the important part to me.

So the story starts out with Captain Marvel and Captain America fighting Absorbing Man together. They win and end up going back to her apartment to talk. This is where they start to outline Captain Marvel’s back story and how Carol end up with powers in the first place. This was nice for me, because I had no expectation when I started reading this. The pervious Captain Marvel and her somehow shared DNA and now she is thinking about taking his name since, I’m assuming, he has passed away. Since she has some of his DNA that was Mar-Vell’s she is debating taking up his name.

The other half of the story is Carol talking about her life as a small child and how she looked up to her father and another woman by the name of Helen Cobb who was a pilot. When she finds out that Helen has passed away, she goes to the funeral and the issues ends.

This was fun because you get a real sense of the character and even if you have no background on the character you can still enjoy it. That was fun for me. While most of the issue dealt with Carol deciding if she was going to take the name or not, it was still an interesting story and I can’t wait to see what happens next issues. It was nice to read something that I had no history with and just enjoy it.

Edit: Anyone have any other suggestion for Marvel comics I am all ears. I have a few of the Gunslinger Trades but I don’t feel that counts because it is more Stephen King in control of the story and I love the dark tower so it wasn’t that hard to pick those up.

Batman Earth One

So he is both a Wayne and Arkham? So he is Gotham in a nutshell.[Batman Earth One]

Okay, this is going to be a list because I really can’t think of any other way to address how much I enjoyed this. Or a list of the things I learned while reading Batman Earth One.

1)      Batman has not always been a graceful mother fucker.

Oh dear.[Batman Earth One]

2)      I may make jokes that Batman is a douchecanoe, but really, he does have a big heart. I think that is something that is easy to forget with his attitude. But when you think about it, he won’t do what he does unless he really does care about the people of Gotham’s welfare. It is easy to lose that in his sometimes shitty attitude.

Hey a Dick would have kicked her in the face.[Batman Earth One]

3)      It was nice to see that little Bruce was a complete and other pill. Doesn’t mean that he deverse to watch his parents die in front of him, but does make it hit harder than when he is the perfect child.

I mean, damn, I want to slap this kid. [Batman Earth One]

4)      Alfred is a badass. Don’t you ever doubt that fact.

Don’t fuck with the Godam Bulter.[Batman Earth One]

5)      Alfred and Bruce have a really kinda sweet relationship when you boil it down.

I think this is one of my favorite panels. Of all time. [Batman Earth One]

While the back boasted that I only thought I knew his story, I was spot on that his parents get gunned down when he was a child and he wants REVENGE! The Story is a lot more complex than that and I really can’t get into any more than that because it will give a lot of story.

Yea, Bruce’s parents are killed in Crime Alley, but it was because his father was running for mayor and it was a hit. The night Bruce meets Alfred the night his parents are killed, so they really don’t know each other from the start. That is a good way to explain why Alfred doesn’t just tell Bruce the whole batman thing is stupid and get his some therapy. That and Alfred is hurting from the loss of his friend, Thomas, to do much of anything to stop him. Hell, when he talks to the cops, he is asking about whom did it and wants to do what he needs to fix it.

Unlike Batman Year One, where Gordon was already a bit of a badass, he is a bit worn down from life in Gotham. It has taken his wife and he doesn’t want to see it take Barbara. It takes seeing Batman in action that makes him the badass we normal see him as. That was a nice touch.

Yet again, I can’t go too much into the story, which was perfect, so I will touch on the art a bit. I think one of the neater things I noticed is that it seems any scene with Men in it tends to be more on the dark and the gray side; while any scene with Barbara tends to be on the really bright and light side. She is younger than most of the men in the story, and I feel like this was done to show that it is people like her who are the future of Gotham and things are getting brighter.

Thou that last one I could be just pulling out of my ass.

Edit: I had to fix the wrong words I was using. As much fun as it is to think Bats has a shitty altitude…it is really his attitude I was talking about. Still funny.
